Healing

Here you can read about healing. You can also find information on the use of healing in Denmark.

Healing is a therapy in which the therapist works with balancing the user’s energies and removing any blockages.

The objective of the treatment is to restore the balance of the user’s energy system and activate self-healing mechanisms.

Healing is a holistic therapy. This entails that the healer does not only focus on physical symptoms, but also attends to the user’s mental and emotional well-being. Thus conversation is often a vital part of a healer’s treatment.

In Denmark healing is used as an element in the treatment of many different physical and mental symptoms.

Users typically approach healers with the following problems:

  • Emotional imbalance
  • Headache
  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Stress
  • Back problems
  • Adverse reactions to cancer treatment

Healing is also used to achieve personal or spiritual development.

According to the Danish trade associations for healers ‘Healer-Ringen’ and ‘Foreningen af Healingsterapeuter’ you can experience an instant effect of healing in the form of physical relaxation.

According to the associations you should expect some time to pass before you can observe the effect of healing on a mental and emotional level. The time frame is individual and depends on the interaction between you and the healer.

The Cochrane Library

The Cochrane Library is an international database, which collects and assesses scientific studies on the effectiveness of a treatment.

At present, the Cochrane Library contains no systematic reviews on the effect of healing.

ViFAB keeps abreast of any news in this field published by the Cochrane Library.

You can experience physical and mental reactions to healing.

Examples of such reactions are:

  • Relaxation
  • Fatigue
  • Increased energy
  • Tingling in the body
  • A sensation of lightness or heaviness
  • A sensation of heat or cold
  • Spontaneous emotions such as joy, relief, anger or irritation
  • Sharpening of senses

You might also experience a temporary aggravation of your symptoms. A healer typically will not conceive such reactions as adverse effects in the usual sense of the word, but as part of the healing process.

If you suffer from a chronic disorder you should be aware that healing could affect your need for medication. A modification of any medical treatment must be effected in consultation with your medical practitioner.

If you have diabetes you should bear in mind that healing could affect your blood sugar level.

In Denmark healers are not authorized.

When admitted to a Danish hospital you can choose to receive treatment from a healer from outside.

You will have to pay for the treatment yourself.

In 2005 the National Institute of Public Health conducted a survey on the use of among other things healing and/or clairvoyance in the Danish population.

Use of Healing and/or Clairvoyance

  • 2.4% of the Danish population has used healing and/or clairvoyance within the previous year.
  • 6.0% of the Danish population has used healing and/or clairvoyance at some point in life.

The Typical User

As yet there exist no surveys, which form at clear picture of the typical user of healing.
