Herbal Medicinal Products
Herbal medicinal products are medicinal products whose active constituents are found in nature.
Thus herbal medicinal products often contain plant extracts or plant parts, but the constituents may also belong to the animal or the mineral kingdom (such as fish oil).
Only Few Adverse Effects
Usually, only few side effects are involved with the use of herbal medicine.
This is due to the fact that the active substances in herbal medicinal products – contrary to conventional medicinal products – are not isolated and concentrated in higher doses than what you will find in nature.
Risk of Interaction
It is important to be aware of the potential risk of interaction between herbal medicinal products and conventional medicinal products.
For example ginkgo biloba can enhance the effect of anticoagulation medication.
