Traditional botanical medical products are medicinal products based on plants, which traditionally have been employed in a medical context, but where the effect of the plant remains to be scientifically proven.
In order to obtain an authorization for a traditional botanical medicinal product, the manufacturer must be able to document that the plant has been employed for medical purposes for at least 30 years, of which a minimum of 15 years within the EU.
